For Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we are thrilled to spotlight the work of a new company, called bffl (best friends for life). Through the efforts of its founder, our friend radiation oncologist Dr. Elizabeth Chabner Thompson, bffl seeks to provide support and comfort to women recovering from breast cancer treatment. After undergoing prophylactic mastectomies herself to reduce her risk of developing breast cancer due to her strong family history, Dr. Thompson was inspired by her experience as both a doctor and a patient to create a hospital bag for women going into the hospital for surgery or chemotherapy treatments. The cute bffl duffle includes all the overnight necessities a woman could want--from playing cards to eyecream. One of our favorite goodies in the duffle is the bffl Axilla Pilla, which is a heart shaped pillow that fits under the arm to ease discomfort by taking pressure off the area where lymph nodes are frequently sampled during treatment. The bag retails for $99, with 15% of the profits going to Cancer1Source. So, when you purchase the bag you join the fight against breast cancer while treating yourself (or your mother, aunt, or friend) to something special.
Speaking of treating yourself or a woman you love, consider "thinking pink" with your jewelry this month, to both remind women to be breast aware for earlier detection, and express moral support for the amazing women around us who are fighting breast cancer or are breast cancer survivors.
